LV: Kristaps Priede “Dzimis ēnā: geju ķermeņu balsis Latvijā”

Izstāde “Born in the Shadows: Voices of Gay Bodies in Latvia” (latv. “Dzimis ēnā: geju ķermeņu balsis Latvijā”) ir introspektīva fotoizstāde, kas iedziļinās 12 Latvijas geju dzīvēs, viņu identitātēs un personīgajos stāstos, cilvēku stāstos, kuri dzimuši padomju režīma laikā vai īsi pēc tā sabrukšanas. Izmantojot izteiksmīgas melnbaltās fotogrāfijas, modeļu sagatavotos zīmējumus un pārdomas rosinošus tekstus, šī izstāde aicina apmeklētājus izpētīt dalībnieku identitāšu, vēstures un personisko izpausmju dažādos krustpunktus.

Izstāde ved apmeklētājus ceļojumā laikā un emocijās, aicinot apcerēt sarežģīto mijiedarbību starp personīgo identitāti un vēsturisko kontekstu. Tas kalpo gan kā apliecinājums cilvēka gara spēkam, gan kā spēcīgs atgādinājums par to, cik būtiski ir atzīt un “svinēt” dažādas identitātes. The exhibition "Born in the Shadows: Voices of Gay Bodies in Latvia" is an introspective photo exhibition that delves into the lives, identities and personal stories of 12 Latvian gay men, people who were born during the Soviet regime or shortly after its collapse. Through expressive black and white photographs, drawings prepared by the models and thought-provoking texts, this exhibition invites visitors to explore the various crossroads of the participants' identities, histories and personal expressions.

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through time and emotions, inviting them to contemplate the complex interplay between personal identity and historical context. It serves both as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and as a powerful reminder of the importance of recognising and “celebrating” different identities. This exhibition celebrates the voices that came out of the shadows, offering a glimpse into the lives of those who live with their truth in a world that often rejects them. It is a tribute to the resilience of the LGBTQ+ community in Latvian and a call for understanding and acceptance.
